Title: California organizers defend pro-Palestinian ‘Teach-In’ from criticism it’s ‘anti-Israel propaganda’

On Wednesday, teachers in Oakland, California, organized a pro-Palestinian “teach in” for elementary school-age children, prompting criticism and a warning from the Oakland Unified School District’s superintendent, Kyla Johnson-Trammell.

Despite the warning, about 100 educators proceeded with teaching the unsanctioned material, which included asking students to draw what they think a Zionist leader looks like and define a massacre. The curriculum also included lessons for Kindergartners to 12th graders, art lessons, math lessons, films, and ways to highlight Palestinian joy.

Judy Greenspan, an OUSD teacher and organizer for the teach-in, defended the event, stating that OEA for Palestine plans to hold future events and urging Superintendent Johnson-Trammell to “get on the right side of history.”

Superintendent Johnson-Trammell had warned teachers that the curriculum did not align with district educational protocol. Despite the criticism, organizers are standing by their decision to hold the event.
