The Income Tax Department’s investigation into the establishments of Baudh Distillery Group linked to Congress leader from Odisha and Rajya Sabha member from Jharkhand Dhiraj Prasad Sahu continued on Sunday. Currency notes worth Rs 300 crore, which are currently unaccounted for, have been recovered. The Income Tax Department has sent more machines and staff to count the notes. Additional security personnel have also been deployed.

The inspection began on Wednesday. Officials said the cash was recovered from a cupboard in the distillery group’s premises in Balangir district, Sambalpur and Sundargarh in Odisha, Bokaro and Ranchi in Jharkhand and Kolkata in Bengal. The investigation is based on confidential information provided by liquor suppliers and sellers.

Officials said that this is the first operation in which so much black money has been recovered in a single check. At the same time, political controversy also started over the incident. The BJP demanded that the Congress give an explanation.
