Mannar – The incident of miscreants cutting the mature teak trees along the road in Madu and carrying them as criminals has created a controversy.
The incident is said to have taken place yesterday (03.03.2024) at midnight.
During this, it is revealed that the mysterious persons have cut the teak trees in the area between Madu Church and Madu Road junction and taken them in a vehicle.
Traffic damage
In this situation, as the branches have been placed on the road, traffic has been affected due to vehicles not being able to travel on the said road this morning (04).
The public has alleged that valuable teak trees growing on the side of the road a few kilometers away from the Madu Church have been cut and taken away many times by mysterious persons.
Meanwhile, there is an army camp a few meters away from the area where the suspects cut teak trees, a Madu police station at the Madu road junction a few kilometers away, a military check post near it and a police outpost at the Madu church junction a few kilometers away on the other side.
In such a situation, the valuable teak trees along the road have been cut down in the middle of the night and taken away as criminals many times.
The people of the area have questioned how they can cut the tree on the roadside when there is military and police protection.
Meanwhile, valuable trees such as Mudirai and Palai have been cut and smuggled in the Periyapandivirichan forest areas near the Madu Church and in the forest areas near the Madu-Parupukadandan road.
Often the criminals who are cut in this way are taken to Vavunia and it is alleged that no one including the police has taken any major action.
Therefore, it is noteworthy that the people of the area have demanded that immediate action should be taken to protect the resources from these timber smugglers.
