COPD: third cause of death in the world

On the occasion of World COPD Day, we take stock of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a common lung disease that is still poorly known to the general public. The third cause of death in the world, COPD caused 3.23 million deaths in 2019 (WHO figures). According to Inserm, 80% of COPD cases are attributable to smoking in France, whether active or passive.

In certain contexts, notably in sub-Saharan Africa, respiratory failure is also caused by indoor combustion, used for cooking food (biomass), to which women are particularly exposed.

What are the symptoms of the illness ? How can we treat it?
