In the near future, it is planned to conduct an experiment on the cultivation of the S-protein and RBD-protein of the COVID-19 coronavirus spike on the ISS.
According to Russian researchers, the purpose of the experiment is to crystallize proteins in space to study their structure in order to create effective drugs. It is also indicated that Russia has already managed to obtain “the first rbd proteins and the spike protein of the new Omicron strain.”
Earlier, the head of the Vector Center of Rospotrebnadzor Rinat Maksyutov said that the researchers were studying the samples obtained with the omicron strain. At the same time, it was indicated that the clinical sample is “not yet an omicron strain”, the sample becomes a virus “in at least two weeks through inoculation for cell culture.”
