Orléans will host PSG at its Source stadium on Saturday January 20 in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France (8:45 p.m.). After 48 hours of suspense, the decision came this Thursday. As a reminder, this 7,500 enclosure is up to standard, but the state of its lawn raised questions. To the point that it was seriously considered that the match would be played at the Parc des Princes.

Since November 30, a municipal decree has in fact prevented meetings from being held after the discovery of pieces of glass on the lawn, following a lack of sandblasting. “The pitch is 100% playable,” said coach Karim Mokeddem in mid-December. But the town hall did not authorize a return to play without a complete renovation.

In recent days, the pitch has been scalped, an action strongly recommended by experts to reduce the danger and the stadium is preparing to receive rolls of turf from Spain which must be covered at the start of next week. – for an estimated cost of €400,000, according to France Bleu Orléans. As a result, the municipal order was lifted this Thursday.

This is a relief for the Loiret club, which was notified, on Wednesday, of its demotion to N2 at the end of the season, as a precautionary measure, by the DNCG and welcomes, in advance, the financial windfall represented by ticketing.

After the cancellation of its National match against Versailles, scheduled for December 1, Orléans hosted Épinal on an annex ground (300 spectators) then Nîmes in the 32nd round of the Cup at the city’s rugby stadium (1,500 spectators).
