This achievement is part of a national legal strategy promoted by the Elected Reproduction Information Group (GIRE), in collaboration with other organizations at the beginning of 2022, “with the goal that no woman, trans man or non-binary person will be pregnant, or health personnel or the people they accompany are criminalized for abortion.”

The announcement was made known through the social networks of GIRE, whose activists demanded “that abortion be guaranteed as an essential health service to which pregnant women, trans men and non-binary people can resort.”

They called on the other Collegiate Courts to:

1. The protections that we have presented against the state criminal codes are resolved with the highest standards of human rights, as in the cases of Aguascalientes and Jalisco.

2. The precedents and criteria already established by the SCJN regarding abortion and reproductive autonomy are applied.

3. Local congresses are ordered to repeal, in the ordinary session in which they are notified, the crime of self-procured and consensual abortion.
