Denmark has declared the pandemic over. At the same time, Covid-19, the disease caused by the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus, is no longer classified as a “socially critical disease”. The last restrictions are lifted. For example, no one has to show a Corona passport at certain major events such as matches in the top Danish football league. Proof that you have been vaccinated, recovered or tested negative is not required in the recently reopened discos.
The mask requirement and other corona restrictions have already been gradually reduced in Denmark in the past weeks and months. Most recently, at the beginning of the month, nightlife was allowed to reopen after a year and a half, but initially with the requirement to be able to show a test, vaccination or recovery on the smartphone using a Corona passport. At the same time, this requirement had been lifted for bars, fitness studios and others.
Danish newspaper: “A special day, a day of joy”
One reason for the final easing is the high vaccination rates, as Health Minister Magnus Heunicke declared at the end of August. So far, according to Our World in Data, around 74 percent of all people in the country have been fully vaccinated. According to Reuters, it is 74.3 percent of the population.
When entering from abroad, however, certain restrictions still apply, depending on the country or region of origin: German travelers who have not been vaccinated or have recovered, for example, must be tested for Corona after entering the country. Schleswig-Holstein, which borders Denmark, is not affected.
Politiken newspaper commented: “Put a flag on the table. September 10th is a special day, a day of joy. Corona is no longer considered a socially critical disease (in Denmark), all restrictions have been lifted. We’re back to normal. In far too many places in the rest of the world, however, the number of infections and deaths is rising. Some deaths are due to vaccination skepticism, but in large parts of the world you couldn’t get vaccinated if you wanted because the West has bought up all the vaccines. This is terrible behavior and dangerous to ourselves, the risk of vaccine-resistant mutations increases. But above all, it is morally wrong to let people die who could have been saved. Many more need to be vaccinated as soon as possible. The vaccines need to be better distributed. Nobody is allowed to hoard.
