The Federation of Oncologists, Cardiologists and Hematologists (Foce) has developed an address document for assistance during Covid and beyond. There telemedicine represents one of the cornerstones, repeated and declined for each of the pathologies. But the document also highlights assistance denied: just think of the 58% more than last year of cardiac arrests occurred in Lombardy outside the hospital, with the consequent missed urgent care.
Reduced mammograms, drop in hospitalizations for stroke
From the same site the report fromNational Agency for Regional Health Services (Agenas) which confirms: “(…) mammograms reduced by 30% nationwide, with peaks of 40% in Sardinia and Calabria and 37% in the Autonomous Province of Trento, and a 22% drop in hospitalizations for ischemic stroke with peaks of 54% in Valle d’Aosta and almost 50% in Molise.
Excess mortality
From the Foce document
: «(…) As regards the various causes of excess mortality, in essence, from the INPS data it can be inferred that Italy has had an excess of mortality due to non-Covid causes equal to 40% of all excess mortality with about 19 thousand more deaths in the March-April 2020 period alone; the United Kingdom by 27%, France by only 5.6%, Sweden by 1.8% and Germany did not record any excess mortality not attributable to Covid. They have assumed a decisive role delays in prevention, diagnosis and management and implementation of life-saving treatments».
