Cowboys Adjust Roster Ahead of Eagles Clash: Elam Waived, Davis Elevated
The Dallas Cowboys made significant roster adjustments on Saturday, waiving cornerback Kaiir Elam and signing running back Malik Davis from the practice squad as a corresponding move, preparing for their crucial Week 12 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Cowboys’ decision to part ways with Elam comes after multiple cornerbacks returned from injury, creating a logjam at the position. Elam, a former first-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2022 NFL Draft, had started seven games in ten appearances this season, accumulating 29 total tackles – 19 solo – and one pass breakup. However, he did not see any defensive snaps in the team’s Week 11 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Elam arrived in Dallas in March as part of a trade with Buffalo, which sent a 2025 sixth-round draft pick to the Cowboys in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick. That sixth-round selection ultimately became Oregon Ducks offensive lineman Ajani Cornelius, who has seen action in only one game for Dallas this season.
Having played in 39 career games with 19 starts, and recording two interceptions, Elam will now seek opportunities with another team. He also registered two interceptions in five career playoff games with the Bills.
Meanwhile, Davis is poised to serve as the backup to running back Javonte Williams for the remainder of the season, having been elevated from the practice squad on multiple occasions. The team has consistently made rookie running back Jaydon Blue a healthy scratch, creating an opportunity for Davis to establish a role in the backfield.

These roster moves signal the Cowboys’ commitment to solidifying their depth and preparing for a challenging stretch of games as they continue their pursuit of a playoff berth following a dominant Week 11 win.
