San Antonio is welcoming a new generation of residents, and for many, the transition isn’t without its challenges. Moving to San antonio to pursue a master’s degree represented a significant opportunity for career advancement, but also a departure from the familiar comforts of New Orleans. “Making a new habitat feel like home presents its own challenges,” the resident explained, acknowledging the initial difficulties of adjusting to a new environment.
Those challenges included navigating ongoing construction and adapting to cultural differences between Louisiana’s “Big Easy” and the “alamo City.” After roughly two months, the city still felt foreign, prompting a intentional effort to integrate into the community. “I’ve used active participation in sports to help build confidence within myself while also gaining familiarity with my community,” he shared.
Living at The View at crown Ridge, the resident quickly discovered a connection to the area’s renowned golf scene. Situated between Cedar Creek Golf Course and La Cantera Golf Club, the location proved particularly appealing given a previous collegiate golf career at Loyola University New Orleans.
“[I’ve] done my best to get out to either golf course at least once a week to chip and putt during the late afternoons with some locals,” he said, describing the experience as “therapeutic,” especially while enjoying the sunset over the Texas Hill Country. The welcoming nature of fellow golfers provided valuable insights into local activities and dining options.
However, golf wasn’t the only avenue for connection. Roughly ten minutes from his apartment, Submission Concepts, a wrestling gym, offered a surprising link to his past. Having been drawn to the sport in New Orleans due to his “kinetic ability,” he’d spent the previous year and a half honing his skills.
Joining Submission Concepts proved instrumental in building relationships with residents of nearby Leon Valley. “The gym’s hospitality has welcomed and helped guide me through San Antonio,” he noted, expressing gratitude

The resident reflected on his evolving perception of San Antonio. What once felt like simply a new place to live is now becoming a home, fostered by two distinct spaces: the tranquility of the golf course, offering mental relaxation and a chance to assist others, and the physical challenge of wrestling, forging bonds on the mat. “Concurrently both have connected me to the community surrounding The View at Crown Ridge,” he concluded.
