On January 26 in the Crusher district, the Ministry of Technical Education, Vocational Training and Employment inaugurated the Advanced Center for Automotive Mechanical Techniques, CEPERTAM. A godsend for little intellectuals.

Created in 1979, CEPERTAM’s mission is the training and development of automobile mechanics… But it had fallen into disuse in recent years due to lack of maintenance. The center was practically abandoned. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Technical Education, Vocational Training and Employment, it is getting a makeover. From maintenance to hydraulic components, including the injection laboratory, bodywork-painting, automobile electricity and automobile driving, all sections benefit from new equipment. Minister Alpha Bacar Barry, who chaired the opening ceremony, rubs his hands: “CEPERTAM represents a model of cooperation and educational structure in the field of technical education and vocational training. In the 1990s, CEPERTAM was a reference in several areas, including injections, learning and perfection in driving. This institution has lost its splendor over time, because we have sinned by the absence of constant monitoring in the area of the quality of infrastructure and equipment. We want to rectify this by providing this school with state-of-the-art equipment. We now have new buildings, new infrastructure, even driving simulators to provide qualified workers.” The minister calls on learners to work to restore the image of the school: “The challenge that awaits us is that of content and quality so that this school can play an important role, not only in the education system. ‘Technical education, but also in the improvement of transport infrastructure. The challenge is to make CEPETAM what it was in the 1990s, a reference.”

The center currently has nearly a hundred learners spread across six sections. For Saa Joseph Kamano, the renovation of the school will boost their morale: “Our school offers an optimal learning environment. Classrooms, special workshops, etc., everything has been designed to promote the acquisition of knowledge, creativity and innovation. We believe that the training environment plays a crucial role in the success of our learners… We are committed to providing our learners with the best resources and opportunities.”

The renovation of CEPERTAM was effective thanks to the support of the French Development Agency, AFD. Anne Milleliri, boss of the Agency in Guinea, promises to continue to invest alongside the Guinean authorities for other projects: “We were very happy to have been at your side as a technical and financial partner and for helping to make this investment possible. This investment is the first in a long series as part of an ambitious operation…to improve training and the competitiveness of learners.”
