Miami-Dade County witnessed how David De Jesús Contreras, a 52-year-old Cuban, received parole after being accused of an event that would shake any family: the murder of his own son, Eric Contreras, 21.

It is worth remembering that this event, which occurred in Kendall on November 3, revealed a complicated father-son relationship taken to the extreme.

During the court hearing, the prosecution presented evidence that pointed to a desperate act rather than a planned one on the part of the Cuban.

“The evidence suggests that the victim was kneeling, crouching.”revealed the assistant state attorney, Rachel Ariela Morales-Gellis, emphasizing the dramatic crime scene.

However, Contreras’ confession was not long in coming, admitting after the fatal incident that ended the life of his own son.

“I had been fighting with my son and I got out of hand with him”, he said with words full of pain.

For its part, the Cuban’s defense relied heavily on testimonies from close friends, who described him not only as a devoted father, but as an individual of good character, distant from the man the charges suggested.

These stories were relevant to leaving an image of Contreras completely opposite to the situation that had led him to face justice.

“To his friends in public, it was one way and at home with his son with all these problems it was another,” explained Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge David H. Young.

Finally, he decided to grant Contreras conditional release, although under strict conditions that excluded his return to his previous home and that, now, he must remain in a completely isolated property.
