Police in Rome, Italy, recently reported that they arrested 14 migrants from nine different countries – including Cubans – accused of causing disturbances at a refugee center, after the body of a young man from Guinea was found.

Among those arrested, in addition to the Cubans, there are also people from Morocco, Pakistan, Guinea, Chile, Senegal, Tunisia, Nigeria and Gambia, all in custody pending how the investigations progress.

According to information provided by VOD Media, these riots occurred on Sunday morning, when migrants in the center rebelled upon learning of the death of a 21-year-old Guinean, who apparently committed suicide because he could not return to his country with his family.

In this sense, the immigrants set mattresses on fire, threw objects at security personnel and used telephone booths to knock down two walls.

And that was not all, as a group of these people attacked the police vehicles that were outside the center and set one of them on fire, while another entered a room where the agents kept their belongings, which they stole and destroyed.

Police also said the suspects broke eight video cameras.

To control the situation, the authorities of the Italian capital were forced to use tear gas and confront the migrants until nightfall, leaving three police officers injured.

After what happened, Riccardo Magi, a deputy, visited the facilities and assured that the detained people may never end up being repatriated to their countries.

“These centers are black holes for rights and humanity. “The majority of people held here will never be repatriated.”stated the official.
