Daejeon to Host Spectacular Fireworks Show Celebrating Hanwha Eagles’ Anniversary

Daejeon City is preparing for a dazzling display of pyrotechnics on the evening of the 30th, a large-scale fireworks show commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Hanwha Eagles baseball club and their recent success in the Korean Series. Authorities anticipate a crowd of up to 300,000 people and are implementing important traffic and pedestrian restrictions beginning at 4 p.m. to ensure public safety.
A ‘daejeon Version’ of Seoul’s Renowned Festival
The event, slated to begin at 7 p.m. at Expo Park in Yuseong-gu and the Gapcheon area of Expo Bridge,is being hosted and organized by the Hanwha Eagles. According to a city announcement, the show is envisioned as the “Daejeon version” of the annual World Fireworks Festival held in Yeouido, Seoul.
The evening will unfold in three distinct acts: a 15-minute commemorative ceremony, followed by a 10-minute drone show, and culminating in a 15-minute multimedia fireworks spectacle. The Hanwha Eagles have invested 2 billion won in fireworks for the event, promising a truly unforgettable experience.
Extensive Safety Measures in Place
Recognizing the potential for large crowds, Daejeon City is enacting safety protocols mirroring those used during major events in Seoul and Busan. Approximately 1,300 personnel, including safety officers, police, firefighters, and volunteers, will be deployed to manage traffic flow and pedestrian movement at key locations – intersections, bridges, and along major roadways.
“We are committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees,” a senior official stated.A thorough on-site situation room will be established at Hanbit Tower Square, maintaining real-time communication with agencies like the Ministry of Public Governance and security.
Traffic and Transportation Adjustments
For safety reasons, the Expo Bridge, Science Bridge, and adjacent Science Park will be closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Though, five designated parking lots will be available for free public use: the Daejeon Government Complex Minwon Building (400 spaces), the Institute for Basic science Visitors (165 spaces), the Daejeon Convention Centre (1,137 spaces), and Dunsan Grand Park (1,324 spaces).
