He met Gemmi in 2001 when she was temporarily assisting his father, Marty Schottenheimer, then the head coach of the Washington Redskins.Gemmi, recently out of a long-term relationship, felt an “immediate connection” with Brian, recalling to the Got it From My Momma Podcast in September 2025 that she told her mother, “I want him in my life in some capacity for the rest of my life.” They became engaged nine months later and married in June 2002, sharing two children: son Sutton (born in November 2004) and daughter Savannah (born in November 2005).
