Live broadcasts are nothing new, not even on the Internet. Users are experimenting with the format on the Twitch platform. But the big success remains.
First of all, Dan Clancy notes how unusual the format in which he is currently speaking to journalists is. The CEO of the live streaming platform Twitch usually speaks on his own channel on Twitch or at conferences – but not in front of a handful of people in a Berlin fireplace room. “Have you ever done something like this?” he asks the Twitch streamers present and gets a shake of the head.
Twitch ekes out a niche existence among social media. The majority of the content there is live broadcasts from so-called streamers who film themselves playing video games and speak into a camera. Over the years, additional live content has been added, such as conversations from streamers or craftsmen who film themselves at work.
