Subject’s editor-in-chief Danby Choi (30) confirms on Thursday opposite Media24 that the newspaper has carried out a downsizing, and that two journalists have already agreed to a severance package.

“The game” current Choi points out that there are hard times in the media industry, and says that this is the reason why Subjekt has ended up in this situation where they have to downsize by two.

– It is very sad and not desirable – but unfortunately, the way this has to go, he says to Medier24.
– I can come across as emotionless
When asked how this will affect Subject, Choi replies that they will have a somewhat lower capacity than before, and that he himself wants to become more of a writer in the future.

– It is naturally a very sad process, and not a situation any of us wanted. But we had to do this in the best possible and factual way.
The 30-year-old says that he wishes his colleagues the best of luck in the future.
– I find the atmosphere to be sad, but as good as it can be despite the situation, answers Choi.
Share openly about the diagnosis
To Dagbladet, the editor-in-chief says that he had to take action over the costs.
– There are major downsizings in the media industry these days. Interest rate increases and a number of other factors have made it more difficult for Norwegian newspapers. Now it’s about taking control over what is possible to take control over, namely the costs.

Despite the downsizing, however, he does not seem worried about Subjekt’s future.
– Subjekt is Norway’s fastest growing newspaper three measurements in a row, and we look ahead with fairly good prospects, he says.
