Dance, from star of Amici to refugee, Italy ‘adopts’ the Ukrainian Gorodiskii

by time news

From Lviv to Italy, from the stage of Amici to Luciano Cannito’s Roma City Ballet Company. Italy adopts the young Ukrainian dancer Nicolai Gorodiskii. Studies at the famous Colon in Buenos Aires and at the Vienna State Opera School, he triumphed in the Grand Prix of the International Competition in Levante (2013) and was later awarded the gold medal at the International Competition in Prague (2012). In 2017, however, he began his adventure in the Royal Theater of New Zealand, in 2018 he was at the San Francisco Ballet and two years later in the National Opera of Ukraine. In 2019 he joined Amici and was promoted to evening classes.

“His existence was brutally disrupted by the war – Luciano Cannito tells time.news – It was he who contacted me through social media. He has lost everything, he is far from his family, he wants to return to dance. I have decided to involve him in my next productions, the ‘Cinderella’ in Turin scheduled for January 6, 7 and 8 and will be a guest of the Red Carpet Ballet Gala at the Conciliazione in the capital, on December 26, with stars from all over the world”.

“We know how important and vital it is for a dancer to be able to continue expressing himself on stage – added Cannito – Inviting Nicolai Gorodiskii also means, concretely, giving an answer to the absurdity of the conflict. In art, culture, dance there are no never been barriers. Russians or Ukrainians? Nationality doesn’t become an obstacle, if anything a viaticum of peace. That’s what I want to demonstrate with my work”.
