Iran used a drone to track a US aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf. According to the US Navy, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower was in international waters in the Strait of Hormuz when the aircraft approached within 1,500 meters (see video above).
The United States on Wednesday condemned the Iranian drone flight, footage of which Iran broadcast on state television (video above), near the aircraft carrier as “unsafe” and “unprofessional.” The incident in international waters on Tuesday violated a “Notice to Airmen” that states that aircraft must remain more than ten nautical miles (around 18.5 kilometers, note) away, Vice Admiral Brad Cooper is quoted as saying in a statement “Unprofessional, irresponsible behavior” “This unsafe, unprofessional and irresponsible behavior by Iran endangers the lives of the United States and its partner nations and must stop immediately,” said Cooper, who commands American naval forces in the Middle East. “American naval forces remain vigilant and will continue to fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows,” he added. American forces in Iraq and Syria have been repeatedly attacked with drones and missiles in recent weeks. According to the US, dozens of people were injured in the attacks.
