Danny Avdia Makes Long-Awaited Return to NBA Floor for Washington Wizards

After more than six months, Danny Avdia finally returned to the NBA floor when he made his first appearance in Washington’s preseason game against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Avdia started with five in the Wizards’ 106-131 victory, finishing with 2 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, a block, and a turnover in 15 minutes of play.

Avdia had been sidelined due to back pain, causing him to miss the previous two games in preparation. However, he made a successful recovery and took to the court with a heavy heart, honoring the late Lieutenant Itai Cohen by writing his name on his shoes. Cohen, who admired Avdia, tragically lost his life in a war while rescuing hostages.

On the court, Avdia showed signs of rust but managed to score a single field goal from half distance. He struggled defensively against Julius Randle and will aim to improve his performance in the team’s upcoming preparation game against the Toronto Raptors.

In the absence of Kyle Kuzma, Jordan Paul stepped up for the Wizards, scoring 29 points in the first half and finishing with a total of 41 points for the game. Mike Muscala contributed 20 points off the bench, while Tyus Jones recorded 13 points and 7 assists. Rookie Bilal Coulibaly, who made the starting five, finished with 7 points and 3 steals despite shooting only 20% from the field. The Wizards went 0-3 in the preseason.

The Knicks, on the other hand, suffered their second loss in preparation within 24 hours. Randle scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while RJ Barrett added 19 points. Mitchell Robinson and Jaylen Bronson also reached double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

In a heartwarming display of support, dozens of Israelis attended the game and distributed hundreds of flyers with pictures of abductees to raise awareness in New York.

The Washington Wizards took to Twitter to celebrate their victory, using the hashtags #NBAPreseason and #ForTheDistrict.

With Avdia back on the court, the Wizards hope to continue their positive momentum and prepare for the upcoming NBA season.
