Here is another proof that music is an art form that transcends geographical, religious and political borders: an Iranian singer singing – with a perfect accent – Naomi Shemer’s “Eucalyptus Grove”. Dara, a singer of Iranian origin who currently lives in Los Angeles, published last Wednesday his version of the song written and composed by Shemer, and became famous most of all in the performance of Tsila Dagan and Ofira Gluska.

Dara (only a first name, like Madonna) has an impressive number of followers on Instagram – over 500 thousand. There aren’t many personal details on any of his professional pages, but he is a singer of Iranian descent currently living in Los Angeles. His performance of “Eucalyptus Grove” is accompanied by a clip in which we see Dara singing the song with pathos and emotion alongside a piano player. To publish the song on Instagram, the Iranian singer also added hashtags such as “Am Yisrael Chai” “Israelim” and “israeli_moments”. He also wrote: “This is a song written by the wonderful composer and writer Naomi Shemer.”

Although Dara did not express himself unequivocally on the subject of the war, he seems to support Israel. One of his followers responded to him with an emoji of a shoe and an Israeli flag (that is, stepping on the Israeli flag), and the Iranian singer replied: “Wow, I sing for peace and love and you behave disrespectfully? Not nice.” In addition, many Israelis wrote to him in response to the moving performance: “Amazing, a beautiful song.” “A stunning song, Israel loves Iran,” wrote another. Who knew that out of all Naomi Shemer’s songs, “The Eucalyptus Grove” would bring peace.
