Stephen King’s Dark Tower Saga: Graphic Novel Omnibuses Over 50% Off at Amazon

Amazon is offering substantial savings this week on the official graphic novel adaptations of Stephen King’s epic Dark Tower series, with fans able to save over 50% on the beautiful omnibus editions. All three hardcover omnibuses – The Beginnings, The Gunslinger, and The Drawing of the Three – are included in the retailer’s Buy Two, Get One Free Book Sale.

Published by Gallery 13 in 2023, the omnibuses originally retailed for $100 each, but are currently priced between $55 and $59 on Amazon. Adding all three to your cart triggers an additional $55 discount at checkout, bringing the total cost for the complete 2,000-page graphic novel series to just $114.73 – a significant reduction from the original price of $300. This equates to roughly $38 per book.

While extensive, the 2,000-page graphic novel series remains less than half the length of King’s original eight-novel Dark Tower series, which totals 4,720 pages and represents the longest story arc in the author’s prolific career. The complete novel series is also available in a box set for $100 (reduced from $161) and is similarly eligible for the Buy Two, Get One Free promotion.

Beyond the graphic novels, numerous other Stephen King releases are featured in Amazon’s B2G1 Free Sale, including hardcover editions of classics like The Running Man and The Long Walk, as well as more recent titles such as New Tales of Stephen King’s The Stand and Hansel and Gretel. The Classic King 3-Book Box Set is also available as part of the promotion.

Here’s a breakdown of the omnibus editions currently on sale:

  • The Beginnings Omnibus ($58.73, was $100) – This 800-page volume collects the first five graphic novels from Marvel’s adaptation: Beginnings: The Gunslinger Born, The Long Road Home, Treachery, The Fall of Gilead, and The Battle of Jericho Hill.
  • The Gunslinger Omnibus ($56, was $100) – A 736-page hardcover featuring six graphic novels: The Gunslinger: The Journey Begins, The Little Sisters of Eluria, The Battle of Tull, The Way Station, The Man in Black, and Last Shots.
  • The Drawing of the Three Omnibus ($55, was $100) – This 464-page collection comprises the final four volumes in the series: The Drawing of the Three: The Prisoner, House of Cards, The Lady of Shadows, and Bitter Medicine.

The Dark Tower saga, spanning over 30 years in its original novel form, was first adapted into comic books by Marvel in 2007, with King serving as creative supervisor. However, the adaptation was ultimately canceled before reaching its intended conclusion. As such, the graphic novel saga, while comprehensive in its own right, is best viewed as a companion piece to the novels.

For those unfamiliar with King’s magnum opus, the series blends elements of high fantasy, science fiction, and horror, centering on Roland Deschain’s quest for the titular Dark Tower and his encounters with the enigmatic Man in Black. While the novels often feature non-linear narratives, the graphic novels offer a more streamlined and intimate reading experience.

Fans of the series will particularly appreciate The Beginnings Omnibus, which serves as a prequel, chronicling Roland Deschain’s formative years and expanding upon his backstory as hinted at throughout the novels. The other two omnibuses faithfully adapt the first two books in the series, while also introducing new material that will intrigue even seasoned readers. All three volumes boast stunning artwork from a team of talented illustrators.

Described as one of the best fantasy series ever written, The Dark Tower uniquely combines dark fantasy, horror, and Western fiction, creating a richly detailed world filled with compelling characters and evocative settings. Scribner first published The Gunslinger in 1982, marking the beginning of a literary journey that captivated readers for decades. The series concluded with the seventh mainline novel, The Dark Tower, in 2004, with King later revisiting the world in 2012 with The Wind Through the Keyhole.
