DaRon Bland Surgery: Cowboys’ Timeline & Recovery

by Grace Chen

FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland underwent successful surgery on his left foot Tuesday morning in Indianapolis, performed by Dr. David Porter.

The surgery comes after a 2025 season where Bland played in 12 games before being placed on injured reserve for the final three. He also missed Weeks 2 and 3 earlier in the season due to a right foot injury sustained during training camp.

This marks the second consecutive year Bland has needed surgery on his left foot. He suffered a fracture in that same foot during training camp leading up to the 2024 season, ultimately playing in seven games that year after recovery.

The recurring nature of these injuries understandably concerns those within the organization. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones expressed his dismay, stating, “I’m not a doctor… but I don’t like that at all. I don’t like the sound of it. You have to watch your feet in relation to the future.”

Despite the recent setbacks, the Cowboys remain committed to Bland, having signed him to a four-year, $92 million contract extension in August. This extension came two years after an All-Pro season in 2023, where he set an NFL record with five interception returns for touchdowns.

Jones affirmed the team’s confidence in Bland, even with the injury history. “He’s been everything you can ask of him in terms of his rehabilitation, in terms of his competitiveness,” Jones said in December. “He’s done the best he can with what he’s had to deal with because of his injury. Thumbs up.”

The hope now is for a full recovery during the offseason, allowing Bland to address the lingering foot issues and participate fully in the preseason before returning to the field for the 2026 season.
