► When and how is the prize awarded?

The Femina Prize award ceremony will take place on Monday November 6 in Paris, at the Carnavalet Museum, the day before the Goncourt Prize. It will reward three authors for the prize for the French novel, the essay and the foreign novel.

► Which books are in the running?

In the French novels category, five books were selected in the jury’s latest selection: Lightningde Pierric Bailly (P.O.L.), To my and only sisterby Guy Boley (Grasset), and Sand merchantsby Agnès Mathieu-Daudé (Flammarion), Sad Tiger, de Neige Sinno (POL) and Watch over herby Jean-Baptiste Andrea (The Iconoclast).

► Who are the members of the jury?

Created in 1904 as a counter-proposal to the Goncourt Prize, deemed misogynistic, the Femina Prize jury is made up exclusively of women. Among the thirteen jurors are the writer Brigitte Giraud, winner of the Goncourt 2022, the historian Mona Ozouf, the specialist in English literature and writer Christine Jordis. The jury is chaired by the writer, presenter and radio producer Paula Jacques.

► What reward do the winners receive?

Like the Renaudot Prize, the Femina Prize does not award any material rewards to its winners. The winners of the Grand Prix du roman of the French Academy pocket a check for €10,000. The Goncourt prize only provides for a symbolic check of ten euros, rarely cashed by the winners.

► The winners of the 2022 prize?

Last year, three women were rewarded for a novel, an essay and a foreign novel. The 2022 French novel prize was awarded to Claudie Hunzinger, for A dog at my table (Grasset).

The essay prize was awarded to historian Annette Wieworka for Tombs. Autobiography of my family (Threshold), and that of the foreign novel by Rachel Cusk for The addiction (Gallimard).
