A dynamic collaboration between David Byrne and Hayley Williams reached new heights on October 11th, with a surprise performance at New York’s Radio City Music Hall and the release of new music for the upcoming Netflix film, The Twits. The pairing highlights a burgeoning creative partnership between the iconic Talking Heads frontman and the Paramore vocalist.
A Surprise Performance at Radio City Music Hall
The chemistry between Byrne and Williams was on full display at Radio City Music Hall, where Williams joined Byrne onstage for two songs. The artists revisited their collaboration, “What Is the Reason for It?” from Byrne’s recent album, Who Is the Sky?. Williams later returned to perform alongside Byrne on his rendition of Paramore’s 2013 hit, “Hard Times,” a cover he has incorporated into every show on his current North American tour.
“She has an extraordinary rapport with her audience,” Byrne told People after observing Williams perform with Paramore at New York’s Madison Square Garden in 2023. “It’s very sincere and very close, which I made note of. I just thought, that’s really amazing.”
New Music for The Twits
Beyond the live performance, Byrne and Williams’ collaborative spirit extends to the animated world. Their previously announced contribution to the Netflix adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Twits, titled “Open the Door,” was released ahead of the film’s October 17th premiere. Byrne also composed and produced three additional original songs for the project – “We’re Not Like Ev’ryone Else,” “Lullaby,” and “The Problem Is You.” The film features voice acting from Natalie Portman and Emilia Clarke.
Extensive Touring Plans
Byrne is currently concluding a four-night engagement at Radio City Music Hall, with tour dates scheduled across North America through December 6th, culminating in a performance in Miami. He will then take his show internationally, with dates in Australia, New Zealand, the U.K., and Europe beginning January 14th in Auckland.
This ongoing series of collaborations and performances underscores a remarkable artistic connection between two generations of influential musicians.
