At only 22 years old, Jannik Sinner can enjoy his exceptional weekend in Malaga. The day after his two victories against Novak Djokovic which qualified Italy for the final, the Italian did it again this Sunday, against the Australian Alex De Minaur (6-3, 6-0), to crown the Transalpines. This is undoubtedly an event since Italy had not won the Davis Cup since 1976.

A bubble in the second set

The world No. 4 could have had a shaky hand when approaching his decisive meeting, shortly after Matteo Arnaldi’s success over Alexei Popyrin (7-5, 2-6, 6-4). It has not happened. Quickly breaking the Australian in the third game, he did it again to easily conclude the first set 6-3 won in 45 minutes. In the second set, Sinner became even more unplayable, alternating between baseline play and spontaneous runs to the net.

De Minaur’s combativeness did nothing, he was forced to give in. Unlike the first set, the illusion of an opposition will not have existed as the level differential was so significant. After just 1:10, Sinner was only two games away from the game. Without failing – with the exception of the first two missed match points – he calmly concluded the game in front of an opponent without solutions who did not glean a single game (6-0).
