In this competition, it is the end of a 12-year singles invincibility for the Serb. Djokovic messed up, Sinner didn’t give up
The third set was indeed going to be his, but Djokovic wasted three match points and let Sinner come back. The Italian only needed one opportunity to win the match. In the end, Sinner saved 7 out of 9 break points and displayed solid perseverance. This is his second victory in his last three meetings against Djokovic, in less than two weeks.
11 days ago in Turin, in a group match at the ATP Masters, Sinner beat the Serbian 7-5, 6-7 (5/7), 7-6 (7/2). But in the final of the tournament last Sunday, Djokovic, 36, gave a lesson to the young 22-year-old Italian (6-3, 6-3) to offer himself the seventh Masters of his career, in the wake of his seventh Masters 1000 from Paris.
The doubles will therefore be decisive to know who will get their ticket to the Davis Cup final.
