the end of the story. After receiving boos from the crowd at the Israel national team’s home games, Mons Davor, whose thoughts to retire were first revealed on ONE, officially announced his retirement from the national uniform today. In the short message he released, he wrote Dabur: “Hello everyone, I want to inform you of my decision to end my chapter in the Israeli national team. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family and everyone who supported me all along the way. Yours, Mons Davor.” By the way, the message was written in three languages - Hebrew, Arabic and English.
As you may remember, Hoffenheim’s player previously expressed himself on his Instagram account against the State of Israel during the Wall Guard operation and caused a great stir among the national team’s fans, when he wrote: “Don’t think that God does not see the wrongdoers. A day will come and he will reckon with them.” He later clarified: “Everyone who knows me knows that I am always in favor of tolerance, mutual respect and coexistence and will continue to do so. This is just as important to me as success on the field. Everyone’s pain is understandable to me and we will do it together to reunite through football and the national team.”
Also, since the team’s last home game, the player’s family has pressured him to retire from the national uniform. Davor already made the decision a few weeks ago, but was just waiting for the right timing for him. The striker also felt that he did not receive real support from the national team for the boos he received. As far as he was concerned, he felt he was dealing with it alone.
As I remember, in the first home game since the operation, Israel’s 2:5 victory over Austria in Sami Ofer, boos were heard for the first time towards the striker, even when he scored the second goal in the match. It was the same in most of the home games against Moldova (goal), Faroe Islands (goal and assist), Romania (double) and as I remember the last home game against the Icelanders was actually the straw that broke the camel’s back.
The striker made his debut in blue and white in Israel’s 2:4 in Honduras, then came on in the 61st minute in place of Omar Demari and in total he has 40 appearances in the national uniform in which he scored 15 goals. His debut goal for the national team was scored by Basmi Ofer in 0:4 against Andorra, when he scored the last goal of the match, and before that he scored the third for Tomer Hamed. It should be noted that when Davor came to the national team he was always committed and gave what he could, even when he went through a difficult time.
