Trier/Merzig – The secret meeting with her lover ended fatally for the woman, who had fled the war in her homeland. Now the Ukrainian Yosyp H. (35) has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his compatriot and lover († 38).
The act happened on March 26, 2022 in one Hotel in Trier, since the end of the year Yosyp H. has had to answer for murder before the local district court.
Shortly before his death, the victim fled with his husband and daughter (13) from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The family found accommodation in Merzig.
The woman had known Yosyp H., who lived near Neuwied, for several years, and according to judge Petra Schmitz in the verdict, the two had “had a loose relationship limited to sexual exchange for a long time.”
On the day of her death, the woman had told her husband that she wanted to meet a friend and had taken the train to the secret hotel meeting in Trier. When she typed messages on her cell phone after sex, her lover became jealous.

Judge Schmitz: “He suspected that she was talking to other men. He saw that as a betrayal.”
According to the conviction of the criminal court, the man turned on the shower so that the 38-year-old would think he was in the bathroom. Then he snuck up behind the woman lying on her stomach on the bed, strangled her and wrapped a sheet around her neck “to make sure she was dead too.”

Then he hid the body in the bed box, fled with all her personal belongings and clothing, disposed of them. Housekeeping didn’t find the body until two days later.
Yosyp H. was arrested on a train near Regensburg on April 2 after a public manhunt. He confessed to the crime during police interrogation, but remained silent during the trial. Until he was given the last word. Then he suddenly denied the crime, claiming that he had a clear conscience.
