There have been reports that <a href="https://time.news/elon-musk-visits-israel-after-controversy-over-anti-semitism/" title="Elon Musk visits Israel after controversy over anti-Semitism”>Hamas leader Yahya Shinwar, who was killed by Israeli forces, is being re-evaluated in the Arab world following his death.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) shed light on this phenomenon on the 20th (local time) with an article titled, ‘With death, the Hamas leader can gain wider support than when he was alive.’

According to reports, the evaluation of Shinwar among Palestinian residents tended to decline due to the war that lasted about a year after Hamas’ raid on Israel on October 7 last year.

In particular, the tendency to despise Shinwar has become stronger among residents of northern Gaza who lost their homes due to the war. However, with Sinwar’s death last week, the mood seems to have changed.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which eliminated Shinwar on the 17th, later released a drone video showing his last appearance sitting alone in a ruined building, looking exhausted.

The person identified by the IDF as Shinwar was hunched over on a sofa inside the building as if he was somehow uncomfortable, and when a drone filmed him, he managed to throw the stick he was holding in his hand.

Although it looked shabby at first glance, WSJ explains that this video is actually resonating with Arab citizens. This is because it looked like a fight until the end.

In fact, in the case of Saudi Arabia, it is known that after Sinwar’s death, they took a stance such as describing him as a terrorist through state broadcasting, and suffered a huge backlash.

Citing a Saudi official, WSJ reported, “A series of protests took place, with the office of a Saudi broadcasting station in Iraq suffering damage from vandalism.”

Nasser al-Kidawa, a member of the Palestinian Fatah Party, told WSJ, “The fact that Sinwar was there, did not escape, and fought (until he died) sparks change among the citizens of the Arab world.”

Al-Kidawa continued by pointing out, “Where and how he died refutes the Israeli narrative that ‘Sinwar abandoned the people of Gaza.’”

In this regard, a senior Arab official pointed out that the video released by Israel could contribute to the continued resistance of Palestinian residents and Gaza militants.

It is said that Shinwar’s ‘last appearance’, filmed by a drone and released, could trigger the unity of the Arab world, contrary to Israel’s intentions.

Islamic militants, including Hamas, and Iran are describing Sinwar’s death as a martyrdom.
