Death Cab for Cutie Signs with ANTI- Records, Announces Summer Tour & New Album
Following two decades with Atlantic Records, Death Cab for Cutie has embarked on a new chapter, signing with ANTI- Records. The move coincides with the announcement of a comprehensive summer tour and the anticipation of the band’s 11th studio album, expected to arrive later this year.
The Ben Gibbard-led group released six albums under the Atlantic label, with two exceeding 1 million copies sold. According to a statement from the band, the decision to join ANTI- was driven by a shared artistic sensibility. “We are thrilled to be joining the roster at ANTI- which includes some of our favorite artists, old friends and in many cases, both,” Gibbard said, noting the label’s diverse roster including artists like Tom Waits, Mavis Staples, MJ Lenderman, and Fleet Foxes.
The forthcoming album will serve as a follow-up to 2022’s Asphalt Meadows, which yielded two chart-topping singles – “Here to Forever” and “Pepper” – on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart.
Death Cab for Cutie’s summer tour is set to kick off on July 10 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and will conclude on August 7 in Paso Robles, California. The band will also perform at the Outside Days festival in Denver, Colorado, on May 29. Tickets for the tour will go on sale January 30.
The tour will feature support from a dynamic lineup of artists, including Jay Som, Japanese Breakfast, and Nation of Language. Gibbard expressed his enthusiasm for sharing the stage with these acclaimed acts, stating, “One of my favorite parts of being in this band is getting to be out on the road with artists that inspire us. Japanese Breakfast, Jay Som and Nation of Language have made some of our favorite albums in recent years and we’re stoked they’ll be joining us this summer.”
