A 14-member Air Force helicopter, including Commander-in-Chief of the 3rd Battalion Vipin Rawat, was on its way to attend an event at the Army College in Wellington, Nilgiris District, Tamil Nadu. On the 8th he crashed near Gunno. Thirteen people, including Vipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat, were killed.

Group captain Varun Singh, who was traveling in the helicopter and was involved in an accident, was admitted to the Command Hospital in Bangalore for further treatment after being treated at Wellington Hospital with 85 per cent burns in critical condition. There, a team of medical experts was giving intensive treatment to Varun Singh.

Varun Singh, the only survivor of a helicopter crash, died today without treatment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences over his death. Modi said his service to the country will always be remembered.
