Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury said that the decision to double the support for climate adaptation activities must be implemented. International support is needed for the full implementation of Bangladesh’s Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan, National Adaptation Plan and Nationally Determined Contribution.
He spoke at the Petersburg Climate Dialogue in Berlin, Germany on Friday (April 26). The minister clearly highlighted the views of least developed and developing countries, including Bangladesh, on important issues related to climate finance decision-making at the upcoming COP29.
The Environment Minister said that mutual trust and confidence should be brought back in the UN climate change talks. The promises made earlier must be implemented. Science should be given importance in all activities to combat climate change. All countries, especially developed countries and those with the capacity, must step up to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees as the Paris Climate Agreement targets.

Almehed, State Secretary and Special Envoy for International Climate Action of the German Federal Foreign Office Jennifer Lee Morgan, State Secretary of the German Federal Chancellery Dr. Jorg Kukis met with various dignitaries including representatives of Egypt and Denmark. He received an invitation from Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Chief Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev for the prime minister to attend COP29.
Environment Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury’s speech caught the attention of ministers from around 40 countries participating in the Petersburg Climate Dialogue and many spoke in support of his views. Apart from ministerial representatives of 40 countries, Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the conference.
