Defense Day Preparations 2 ships will be inducted into Pak Navy

(Owais Kayani) Preparations of Pakistan Navy are going on to organize a grand ceremony on the occasion of Defense Day. On this day, 2 ships will also join the Pakistan Navy. The President will be the chief guest of the induction ceremony.

According to the sources, on the occasion of Defense Day on September 6, preparations are underway for 2 major inductions in the Pakistan Navy, ‘PNS Babar’ and ‘PNS Hunain’ will be simultaneously inducted into the Pakistan Navy, PNS Babar and President Asif Ali Zardari will be the chief guest at the induction ceremony of PNS Hunain, the first Babur class ship built in Turkey, ‘PNS Babur’ will officially become part of the Pakistan Navy, the third built in Romania. Shore Patrol Vessel ‘PNS Hunain’ will also join the Pakistan Navy.

The construction of PNS Babur started on 4th June 2020, PNS Babur was launched on 15th August 2021 and commissioning took place on 23rd September 2023. Under the Pak-Turkey agreement, 2 ships are being built in Istanbul and 2 in Karachi, 3 other Babar class ships PNS Badr, Tariq and Khyber are currently in various stages of preparation.

Moreover, the Babar-class ship is capable of simultaneous surface, underwater and air warfare, the 2888-tonne Babar-class ship can engage targets through a vertical launch system to deal with air threats.

The third Yarmouk-class OPV 2600 for the Pakistan Navy has also been built at the Galati Shipyard in Romania, the latter 2 OPVs have a displacement of 2600 tons compared to the first 2 Yarmouk-class ships, making the Yarmouk-class ships unmatched. Due to the quality of guided missile corvettes in the Pakistan Navy, all ships of the Yarmouk class including PNS Hunain are suitable for surface and air warfare as well as search and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, the 98-meter long PNS Hunin has a speed of around 24 knots, with the help of a vertical launching system, PNS Hunin can launch surface-to-air missiles, with a 76 mm main gun. Also fitted with 2 20mm secondary guns on NS Hanin, all four ships of the Yarmouk class are credited with important battles in Islamic history.
