For the first time in India, the Delhi International Airport has been named as a fully renewable energy powered airport.

The federal government is making various efforts to reduce climate change and global warming. As part of its goal of achieving the goal of ‘Juro carbon emissions at airports’ by 2030, Delhi Airport has been redesigned to run on renewable energy sources such as solar and hydropower.

From June 1, 6 per cent of the airport’s electricity demand will be met by solar panels and the remaining 94 per cent by hydropower, the airport said in a statement.

According to a statement issued by the Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport: –

Solar panels are installed on the roof of the airport runway and cargo terminal. Delhi Airport has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with a Himachal Pradesh-based hydropower company to supply hydropower to the airport until 2036.

To the airport, 7.84 MW of electricity is available through runway solar panels and 5.3 MW through the newly constructed cargo terminal roof. The switch to renewable energy will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2 lakh tonnes per year from the airport.

Thus it is said.
