Delhi-NCR Under Orange & Yellow Alerts as Unseasonal Rainfall Brings Temperatures Plummeting
Delhi and surrounding regions are bracing for continued inclement weather as an unseasonal rainfall event persists, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue alerts across the National Capital Region (NCR). The ongoing wet spell, which began on Monday, October 6th, 2025, and continued through the early hours of Tuesday, October 7th, 2025, is attributed to the first significant western disturbance of the post-monsoon season.
As of a nowcast update issued around 4:30 am on Tuesday, all districts of Delhi are under an orange alert, signifying a heightened risk of disruptive rainfall. Neighboring cities in Uttar Pradesh – Noida and Ghaziabad – have also been placed under orange alert, while Gurugram and Faridabad in Haryana are under a yellow warning, indicating potential for localized impacts.

The rainfall has already caused a significant drop in temperatures. On Monday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 26.5°C, a remarkable eight degrees below the seasonal normal. This marks the lowest maximum temperature recorded in October since October 17th, 2023, when the temperature dipped to 26.2°C.
According to IMD officials, the rain is expected to continue on Tuesday, though a slight reduction in intensity is anticipated. Delhi’s minimum temperature on Monday was recorded at 20.6°C, two notches below normal. Krishna Kumar Mishra, a senior scientist at IMD’s regional weather forecasting centre, noted that northwesterly winds expected to arrive on Wednesday could further drive minimum temperatures below 20°C.

The western disturbance is not only impacting the plains but has also brought fresh snowfall to the upper Himalayan regions. The resulting cold winds are forecast to reach the NCR starting Wednesday, potentially exacerbating the current chill.
The temperature drop has been particularly pronounced in Haryana, where Gurugram recorded a maximum temperature of 28°C on Monday – nearly six degrees lower than Sunday, representing one of the sharpest temperature declines of the season. In Uttar Pradesh, Noida experienced a maximum temperature of around 30°C and a minimum of 22°C on Monday. The IMD forecasts that Tuesday in Noida could bring thunderstorms accompanied by hailstorms, lightning, and winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h.
Residents across the NCR are advised to remain vigilant and prepared for potentially disruptive weather conditions as the western disturbance continues to influence the region.
