► Upcoming delivery of weapons containing depleted uranium by Washington
The United States will provide Ukraine with anti-tank munitions containing depleted uranium, as part of new aid announced on Wednesday September 6. This aid totals one billion dollars (935 million euros) and is supposed to give a “new impetus” in the counter-offensive against the Russian forces.

In addition to anti-tank munitions, it notably includes $300 million for civil security in liberated areas, $206 million in humanitarian aid, as much to support local institutions, $90 million for mine clearance and $100 million to finance future purchases of military equipment.

The Kremlin on Thursday castigated the promised supply to Ukraine by the United States of depleted uranium munitions, capable of piercing armor but controversial because of the toxic risks for the military and the population.
“The US administration’s decision to send depleted uranium munitions to kyiv is a clear sign of inhumanity”castigated the Moscow embassy, highlighting the risks linked to “moving radioactive clouds” caused by the explosions of these weapons.
Their use in the past has “led to a frenzied rise” of cancers and it is therefore a “very bad news” of which the “responsibility will lie with the United States”declared Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov for his part.

The Kremlin denounced Thursday the handover by Washington to Ukraine of 5.4 million dollars (5 million euros) in frozen Russian assets, announced the day before by American Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a visit in Kyiv.

The Ukrainian army has made a breakthrough in the Russian defense lines and is making progress in its counter-offensive against troops in Moscow, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday.

The south of the Odessa region was again the target of a Russian night attack by drones which notably damaged port infrastructure, local governor Oleg Kiper said on Thursday.
