Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas said that the death rate of dengue patients in Bangladesh is higher than in other countries due to lack of proper healthcare.

He said this at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the community center at Kalabagan in the capital on Wednesday (March 20).

DSCC Mayor said, Culex mosquitoes have increased a little. The activities of Dhaka South City Corporation are ongoing. We are hopeful that the way we managed to control it during the full season, we will be able to control it even if the season is a bit late. Therefore, we have identified the areas where mosquitoes have grown. Mosquitoes grow if water accumulates for a long time. We are hopeful that we can control it completely.

Are you satisfied with the duties that the public representatives are performing and do you think the police officers are doing their job properly? In response to such a question, Mayor Tapas said, in our 75 wards, under the leadership of councilors, the mosquito workers are destroying the larvae in the morning and fogging in the afternoon. All our equipment, pesticides are well stocked. So there is no room for interruption. But at the end of the season, as the water becomes confined, reproduction is greatly increased. In this regard we are speeding up our operations with wheelbarrow machines. We are trying to identify where there is more breeding. Taking more extensive activities in those places. We are hopeful that the people of Dhaka will get the benefits within a few days.

The committee of the Department of Health is giving a warning message about dengue, what do you think? Can you keep it under control? In response to such questions, DSCC Mayor said that a meeting was held in the Ministry of Health on this issue yesterday as well. What is most troubling is that last year we noticed that the death rate has increased dramatically. In that case, we have said that the services of the Directorate of Health and the Ministry of Health should be further ensured. Some of the things we noticed last year were that many patients were told at the initial stage that you will not be admitted to the hospital. You go home and get treatment. Later it was seen that the patient’s condition worsened. When he was later admitted to the hospital, he was not given the same health care. We have highlighted these issues. Aedes mosquito outbreak is not only in Bangladesh, it is worldwide.
