The lack of readily available dental surgeons has created a particular bottleneck in emergency care access. While the program will not instantly open new consultation slots to the general public, it will focus on patients referred through emergency services. According to a hospital spokesperson, a system will be implemented where emergency doctors will issue notices, and patients will be scheduled for follow-up appointments.
“Today, what poses a problem is access to emergency care,” the spokesperson clarified.
Isabelle Assih, the mayor of Quimper, highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating, “In terms of access to health, there was a big gap in dental emergencies.” She expressed immediate enthusiasm when Professor Boisramé, dean of the faculty of odontology at the University of Western Brittany, proposed the collaboration, noting, “When Professor Boisramé came, we immediately said to ourselves that that was all we were waiting for.” The Quimper Western Brittany (QBO) institution has committed to providing accommodation for the students.

Crucially, CHIC also invested in a Cone beam, a state-of-the-art 3D imaging device.
“It is indeed a 3D device which avoids the need for scanners and reduces radiation,” explained Nathalie Fremin, deputy director of the hospital. “We missed him,” she added, underscoring the importance of this technology for daily imaging procedures. The students are already familiar with this technology from their training in Brest.
