Singaporean Stars Desmond Ng and Kanny Theng Announce Pregnancy

Singaporean actor-singer Desmond Ng and actress-host Kanny Theng shared joyful news on Wednesday, January 28, announcing they are expecting their first child, with a due date anticipated in June or July of this year. The couple, who have maintained a degree of privacy surrounding the pregnancy, revealed the news via their social media channels, marking a significant milestone in their relationship.

A Journey to Parenthood

Theng, 38, is currently 14 weeks pregnant, according to a conversation with CNA Lifestyle. The couple, who married on March 28, 2025, after a seven to eight-year courtship, described a mix of excitement and apprehension as they prepared to share their news with the public.

“We’re pretty excited,” Theng stated. However, Ng’s emotional response evolved over time. “The front part was a little bit more unsure,” he shared, explaining his initial uncertainty. “I didn’t know what to do, but we are now moving, following the tempo, the motion. Everything is kind of on the right track, so now (we’re) more excited than a few months ago.”

Facing the Reality of Fatherhood

While the pregnancy was planned, Ng, also 38, admitted the weight of becoming a father was more profound than he initially anticipated. “I thought I was ready,” he confessed. “But when you start to know that, ‘oh, this is really happening’ then you start to panic a bit.”

This realization immediately triggered a flurry of preparations, from planning house renovations to jokingly contemplating his future retirement. The initial shock even impacted his sleep, with Ng reporting he slept “less than five hours” in the days following the positive pregnancy test.

Navigating Later-in-Life Pregnancy Concerns

Theng, in contrast, described herself as “quite chill” about the pregnancy, while acknowledging the significant life change ahead. She also openly discussed the anxieties associated with pregnancy at age 38, specifically regarding medical testing.

“I was very, very, very worried about the test because of my age,” she said, referring to the Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT). The timing of the tests during the Christmas and New Year holiday period further amplified her concerns, leading to extended waiting periods and heightened tension. “But the test came back and it was all good, so I got more excited,” she shared with relief.

The couple’s journey to parenthood, marked by both joy and vulnerability, resonates with many expecting parents, highlighting the complex emotions that accompany this transformative life experience.
