Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said that Dhaka needs 25 percent roads, but only 9 percent is there. He also said that Dhaka’s traffic system will be gradually brought to the lighting system.

The Minister said these things in response to a supplementary question by Awami League member Shafiqul Islam Shimul at the National Parliament session on Sunday (February 11). Speaker Shireen Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session.

Shafiqul Islam Shimul said in his question, cars move so well in foreign countries, where there is no traffic police. The car moves smoothly on the road through the signal. When we go to the cantonment, we see the cars moving so beautifully! Even if the law is passed, will any effective action be taken for such an environment of signal lights in the whole of Bangladesh?

In this context, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that two crore people live in Dhaka. A city needs at least 25 percent of roads to maintain traffic flow. We have 9 percent road there. It could be 9.5 percent if the elevated expressway is added. We have a road crisis. We gave it a trial run. In that we saw a scene of Mahajat. So we moved away and came up with another plan.

He said, two city mayors have joined us. Looking at how we can bring in more street lighting systems. We may start in some places in phases soon. Later, maybe we will bring the entire Dhaka to that system.
