Diablo Celebrates 30 Years with Sorcerer Class Expansion Across Multiple Titles
To mark its 30th anniversary, Blizzard Entertainment is unleashing a wave of content for the Diablo franchise, highlighted by the return of the Sorcerer class. The iconic character will appear in Diablo 4 with the “Lord of Hatred” expansion on April 28, and will also be playable in Diablo Immortal starting in June. However, the most immediate surprise for fans is the Sorcerer’s availability now in Diablo 2: Resurrected through the newly released “Reign of the Warlock” DLC.
The “Reign of the Warlock” expansion, available for €24.99 on Battle.net, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and eShop, introduces a fresh take on the classic class over 25 years after the original game’s launch. A more comprehensive “Infernal Edition,” priced at €39.99, bundles the base game with the expansion. Furthermore, Diablo 2: Resurrected is making its debut on Steam with the Infernal Edition, while the standard version is now accessible via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Reign of the Warlock: A Deep Dive into the New Class
“Reign of the Warlock” fundamentally expands the gameplay options within Diablo 2: Resurrected with the Sorcerer, offering three distinct playstyles. Players can choose to summon demons as allies, imbue their weapons with potent otherworldly magic, or unleash devastating ranged attacks fueled by fire, shadow, and chaos. According to a company release, the expansion also introduces a wealth of new unique items, sets, and runewords specifically designed to complement the Sorcerer’s abilities. A new “Chronicles” system has also been implemented, meticulously recording all items acquired throughout a player’s account.
Beyond the new class, significant quality-of-life improvements are being rolled out. Players will benefit from customizable loot filters and newly implemented shared chest tabs, organized by gems, materials, and runes, streamlining inventory management. Terror Zones have also been updated, allowing players to strategically select their battlegrounds with revised difficulty and mechanics that reward a more thoughtful approach.
Diablo 4 and Beyond: Cross-Game Enhancements and Future Content
The celebration extends to Diablo 4, which is currently testing the Tower and online leaderboards in beta. For endgame content, the Ancients are returning, repurposed as a high-level challenge geared towards optimized groups and characters.
Blizzard is also fostering a sense of interconnectedness across its titles with a series of cross-game rewards. Players can earn a unique pet and cosmetic trophy for Diablo 4, as well as a housing item for World of Warcraft.
