Blizzard Entertainment is marking 30 years of Diablo with a major expansion: the introduction of the Warlock class across multiple titles, including Diablo 2: Resurrected, a game that first captivated players over 25 years ago.
Warlock Class Arrives in Diablo 2: Resurrected and Beyond
The highly anticipated Warlock class is now available in Diablo 2: Resurrected, bringing a fresh dynamic to the classic action RPG.
What is the Warlock class in Diablo 2: Resurrected? The Warlock allows players to summon demons – like the Goatman, the Tainted, and the Defiler – bind them, and even devour their lifeforce to gain temporary buffs and traits.
Diablo 2: Resurrected, the 2021 remaster of Blizzard’s beloved sequel, received the “Reign of the Warlock” DLC today, February 11. The downloadable content is priced at $24.99 and is available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch via Battle.net and Steam.
The news was unveiled during Blizzard’s Diablo 30th Anniversary Spotlight showcase, which also revealed Warlock content for other games in the franchise. A Warlock class will be integrated into Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred on April 28 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It will also be added to the free-to-play Diablo Immortal this summer.
The addition of the Warlock to Diablo 2: Resurrected is particularly noteworthy, as the class was not present in the original game. Beyond the new class, today’s update enhances Terror Zones, allowing players to earn consumables and select which acts are terrorized. Players tackling Hell difficulty will encounter Heralds of Terror and can unveil five mystical statues to unlock a challenging new uber boss: the Colossal Ancients, described by Blizzard as “the next evolution of endgame battles.”
Further quality-of-life improvements have been implemented, including built-in loot filters, improved stash tabs with stacking functionality, and a Chronicle to track collected items.
Blizzard initially released Diablo 2: Resurrected over five years ago for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. A review noted the game “brings a beloved classic up to today’s graphical standards, but it overlooks 20 years of obvious flaws,” awarding it a score of 7/10.
