MEXICO CITY, September 7 (EL UNIVERSAL).- To have information and assess the progress in improving the learning of basic education students, the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) and the National Commission for the Continuous Improvement of the Education (Mejoredu), diagnostic evaluations will be applied until October 15.

“Mejoredu seeks that this diagnostic evaluation exercise contributes to fostering an understanding of the educational processes and the living conditions of girls, boys and adolescents; promotes permanent dialogue and reflection in school communities, and supports decision-making aimed at to the continuous improvement of education,” he noted.

The diagnostic evaluations of learning are related to contents of Reading, Mathematics, Civic Training and Ethics for students from 2nd to 6th grade of primary education and from 1st to 3rd grade of secondary education.

In a statement, Mejoredu reported that the evaluations may be applied in all public and private schools in the country to have aggregated information at the national level and by entity, which will be carried out in a representative sample of basic level schools.

He said that based on these results, an assessment of progress in learning will be carried out based on the results obtained at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year to provide feedback on improvement decisions in the national education system.

He explained that the evaluation application period began on September 4 and will end on October 15 and indicated that each school will be able to choose between four application alternatives: through booklets and printed answer sheets; with the help of a booklet projected on a screen and printed answer sheets; through a computer-assisted application (digital system) and through an online computer-assisted application.

In addition to the materials and instruments provided to support the development of these evaluations, Mejoredu has a help desk and a telephone line (5554820900) to answer any technical or operational questions that teachers and parents may have when using the application. The help desk is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Due to their diagnostic nature, the evaluations refer to the learning established in the study plan and programs in force in the previous school year; However, they will be accompanied by descriptive tables in which it will be possible to identify the relationship of the evaluated learning with the Learning Development Processes (LDP) established in the new curricular proposal.

Mejoredu said that it develops instruments for diagnostic evaluation that will be available for application the next school year, once the students have completed a school grade with the new curriculum.

A few days ago, specialists in educational issues questioned the lack of diagnostic tests to determine the effectiveness of the New Mexican School (NEM) promoted by the current government.

“The NEM is going absolutely blind. We have practically no evaluations since the National Institute for the Evaluation of Education disappeared,” said Eduardo Backoff Escudero, former president of the Governing Board of the defunct National Institute for the Evaluation of Education (INEE). ) and president of the Board of Directors of Métrica Educativa.

He explained that the last evaluation that was carried out in this six-year period was in 2019 and was the Regional Comparative Explanatory Study (ERCE), organized by UNESCO, and the PISA test (Programme for International Student Assessment, in English), organized by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which was applied in 2022 and whose results will be announced in December of this year.

“We are in the dark, we don’t know where we are on the navigation path. This can really cause a collapse,” he said.
