TECUMSEH, Ontario – Windsor Regional Hospital leaders have tapped Diamond Schmitt architects to lead the planning and design for the first phase of its new acute care hospital project, the fancsy Family Hospital, in tecumseh. This significant progress follows the earlier proclamation this month that EllisDon will serve as the project’s construction manager.
Hospital Project Gears Up with Key Team Selection
This 125,000-square-foot initiative promises to reshape healthcare delivery in the Windsor and Essex County region.
The new facility, situated adjacent to the current main hospital, is envisioned as a state-of-the-art education and administration center. It’s designed for seamless access for support teams and visitors, fostering a dedicated surroundings for learning and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Sylvia Jones, Deputy premier and Minister of Health, stated, “Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people in Windsor and Essex County can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it.”
Diamond Schmitt Architects secured the role through a competitive process. Their initial work will focus on the enabling works phase, including an auditorium, a simulation training center, classrooms, and office space. A multi-level parking garage, offering convenient, covered access, is also part of Phase I. The firm aims for the new design to integrate smoothly with the existing hospital building for a cohesive campus development.

EllisDon’s selection was also competitive, leveraging their extensive experience in large-scale health and infrastructure projects, including the Brampton Civic Hospital (2007) and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (2015).

Construction is slated to commence in early 2026 and is anticipated to conclude by 2029.
