The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned today that “he’s playing dice” with the security of the Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia, occupied by Russia, and which is now in emergency mode for the sixth time after missile attacks.

“What are we doing? How can we sit in this room this morning and allow this to happen? This cannot continue.”warned today the director general of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, in a speech before the Board of Governors of this UN Organization.

The Ukrainian state company Energoatom announced that the plant, the largest in Europe, today lost the last remaining operational electricity supply line, “due to missile attacks by the Russians.”

Grossi confirmed the loss of supply and that the plant has started to operate in emergency mode, with six diesel generators providing the necessary electricity to keep essential systems operational.

Grossi said that these generators, which he referred to as “last line of defense” they have fuel for fifteen days, and denounced that this is the sixth time that Zaporizhia has operated in emergency mode.

“Every time, we play dice. And if we allow this to continue over and over again, one day our luck will run out.” alerted the Argentine diplomat.

Grossi, who has been calling for the creation of a security zone around the plant for months to avoid a nuclear accidenttoday again called on all member countries for an immediate commitment to protect Zaporizhia.
