The Cuban regime has put on hold the conditional release request submitted for Luis Robles Elizástigui, a 31-year-old political prisoner.

Despite the expiration of the established deadline to obtain a response, the authorities have not issued any statement on the matter.

Luis Robles’ mother, Yindra Elizástigui, told Martí Noticias the process followed since she hired a lawyer in January to process her son’s request for parole. Although the file was presented to the Provincial Court, a response was expected within 90 business days, a period that has already passed without news.

In a recent meeting with the lawyer in charge of the case, Yindra was informed that they could only wait. She also said that the delay could be related to an incident in prison against Luis Robles, involving two prison officers, which he publicly denounced to the international press to obtain attention for the situation of his son.

Luis Robles was sentenced to five years in prison for participating in a peaceful protest in December 2020 in Havana, where he demanded an end to repression in Cuba and the release of rapper Denis Solís.

After various efforts, he was transferred to a correctional work center last year, which has allowed him to enjoy passes to visit his family.

He received his first home visit pass in February of this year, a moment of great joy for his mother, who shared her happiness on Facebook, comparing it to the excitement of receiving a new toy in her childhood.

Luis’s family now hopes that the visits will continue and long for his complete release, after what they consider an unjust prison of three years, two months and a few days.

Meanwhile, the Cuban dictatorship continues to abuse its power and disrespect the rights of Cubans, as is the case of Luis Robles, who is unjustly detained.
