President of the National Association of Broadcasters Eduard Sagalaev died on Saturday, May 13, at the age of 77. This was announced by OTR General Director Vitaly Ignatenko.

“Yes, he died today,” said Ignatenko. “He died suddenly.”

Sagalaev came to television in the mid-70s, until 1980 he replaced the editor-in-chief of the youth programs of the Central Television of the USSR. In subsequent years, he was the editor-in-chief of the youth programs of the All-Union Radio and Central Television. After perestroika, he held senior positions in the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, Ostankino, TV-6, the Moscow Independent Broadcasting Corporation, and the National Association of Television and Radio Broadcasters. He worked as a presenter on TV-6 and TNT, hosted the author’s program “The Wisdom of an Idiot, or Eduard Sagalaev’s Encyclopedia of Mistakes”, was the artistic director of the Psychology21 TV channel, and became the author of several documentaries about religion. In 2001, Sagalaev was one of the signatories of a letter in defense of the “old” NTV. In 2017, at the Nika awards ceremony, he delivered a speech criticizing modern Russian television. In 2021, he criticized “blue lights”.
