Dietrich Theater Announces Winterfest Preview, Book Discussions, and Celebrates Longtime Volunteer

The Dietrich Theater is gearing up for a busy season with a Winterfest preview event, ongoing book discussions, and a heartfelt tribute to a dedicated volunteer.

The Dietrich Theater is embracing a diverse range of programming, from cutting-edge cinema to community literary events, reflecting a commitment to serving a broad audience. Recent observations highlight a shifting landscape in audience preferences, with a growing demand for representation of niche interests. “There is a whole world of people out there who deserve to have their interest represented,” noted a senior theater official, reflecting on the unexpected enthusiasm for the film “Iron Lung,” a video game adaptation that drew a surprisingly large and dedicated crowd.

New Releases and Film Festival Highlights

Currently showing is “Send Help,” lauded for its compelling exploration of power dynamics, survival, and deception, drawing comparisons to the critically acclaimed “Triangle of Sadness.” The theater is also showcasing “Solo Mio,” starring Kevin James, a romantic comedy set in Rome that promises a heartwarming story of second chances. The theater director expressed excitement about the film, having recently returned from a trip to Italy in 2024 and eager to relive the “magic of Rome” on the big screen.

Winterfest Preview Day Set for February 12th

Film enthusiasts are encouraged to attend Winterfest Preview Day on February 12th at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The free event offers a sneak peek at the 20 films – a mix of foreign and independent titles – that will be featured in the Winterfest film festival, running from February 20th through March 12th. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with theater staff and provide feedback on their anticipated viewing choices. More information, including the full brochure, is available at www.dietrichtheater.com or at the theater itself.

Wyoming County Reads 2026 Kicks Off

The Dietrich Theater is also playing a central role in the Wyoming County Reads 2026 initiative. The program’s selection for this year is “A Man Called Ove” by Frederik Backman, with discussions already underway. The next discussion is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11th at 7 p.m. at The Little Book Place on Bridge Street. A recent interview with discussion leader Mary Zbegner, featured on WVIA’s “Art Scene,” can be found online by searching “Art Scene WVIA.” Participants are also invited to view the film adaptation, “A Man Called Otto,” starring Tom Hanks, with free admission. Dates for future discussions and screenings can be found on the Dietrich Theater website.

Celebrating a Dedicated Volunteer

The Dietrich Theater also took a moment to recognize the invaluable contributions of Jim Rosengrant, a volunteer who has been with the theater since its restoration following the 2011 flood. “We got so lucky… Jim was one of those men and he has been with us ever since, ready to do whatever is needed,” a theater representative shared. Rosengrant’s birthday is approaching, and the theater encourages patrons to express their gratitude with a hug or a high five.

The Dietrich Theater invites the community to participate in its diverse offerings. “What will bring you to the Dietrich in the next few weeks? An event? A discussion? A class? A movie?” the theater asks. “Whatever it is, we will be glad to see you. See you at the Dietrich!”
